5 Rules


Have you ever wondered how some people stay so fit?  What is there secret for being healthy and vibrant?

Most of us wake up every day with good intentions of working out and eating healthy, however life happens and we miss our opportunity to be healthy.  Why doesn't life get in the way of healthy people?  The secret of healthy people is planning.  Planning is often what separates a success from a failure.

Here are my top 5 rules for planning for a successful healthy day.

1. Plan your workouts and your meals.  Whenever I exercise, I have a plan of what I want to accomplish and what exercises I will do.  Also, I have a pretty good idea of the healthy foods that I will eat each day.  If I go to a restaurant, I have rules that allow me to eat healthy at most establishments.

2. Do not over plan your workouts.  If you only have 20 minutes, then plan for 20 minutes of exercise.  A little exercise is way better than no exercise.  By the way, you do not need to spend time in the car driving to the gym to workout.  There are plenty of workouts that you can do at home with less than $50 of equipment.  If you are interested in custom home workouts, please schedule an appointment with me.

3. Schedule your workout and stick with it.  This might seen easier said than done, and often it is.  Sometimes you need to adjust your life to work it in your schedule.  For example, you might need to ask a spouse or friend for help watching the kids while you exercise.  Oh yeah, pack your gym clothes in a bag and put it in your car the night before.

4. Look for opportunities in your schedule where you can work out.  For example, I workout from 10:45 am to 11:45 am Monday through Friday.

5. Control the time and energy vampires.  You know who they are.  They are the people in your life that want to just chat.  They are the people who are always asking you for a favor but never doing one in return.  Basically, they are the people who take advantage of your time and energy.  You may really love these vampires, but they need to be controlled.  Be nice, but be firm with these people.  If you are trying to get your work done so you can go workout, explain to them that you are under a tight deadline and ask if you can call them back.  Or if the time vampire is a family member, explain to them that you want to be healthier and need a small amount of time to work out.
